Two new charity initiatives are launched by Bec Development Ltd and its sister company The Coach House, Coach Training Ltd
Dateline: November 4 2018
“The Coach House Bursary is all about helping people learn to coach and who otherwise might be unable to fund a place on an accredited and recognised coach training course,” explains Helen Tiffany, founder and MD of both companies.
“Give Back to Barnardo’s is designed to support the work of Barnardo’s with a donation of £50 from us each time someone graduates from one of our accredited coach training programmes.”
The Coach House and Bec Development are already in discussion with their client lists about creating a match funding and other supporting initiatives when client employees qualify as coaches through their The Leader as Coach programme.
A key purpose behind both initiatives is to create a sustainable giving back approach, designed to take corporate giving to the stage where it becomes self-perpetuating and less reliant on individual effort.
Julia Humphreys, Head of Learning & Development at media agency Wavemaker UK, commented: “We are delighted to be associated with the Give Back to Barnardo’s initiative from Bec Development. In 2018 the first cohort of Wavemaker people graduated from Leader the as Coach programme and many more will be graduating in 2019. And thanks to Helen and Bec Development we’re also talking to Barnardo’s about our Wavemaker ‘Angel Days’, where employees gift their time to chosen charities.”
The choice of Barnardo’s as a charity partner stems from Helen Tiffany’s own background as a Barnardo’s Baby. “I think my birth mum was very brave handing me over to Barnardo’s as a baby. I hope she knows how happy and loved I am and always have been. I spent a few months in a Barnardo’s home before being adopted and I’ve always been open about my background. I think it’s very much part of who I am.”
Over the last 10 years Helen has raised over £30,000 in direct funding as well as working with the charity at an advisory and consultancy level.
“Personal challenges in the past have included walking the Great Wall of China and trekking and mountain climbing in Borneo and while the generosity of friends and colleagues takes my breath away, I want to find ways of doing more, as well as tapping into the generosity and initiatives of our clients,” says Helen.
Lynn Gradwell, Director Barnardo’s London region added: “Barnardo’s supports the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children across the UK and we are very grateful for the commitment that Helen has shown to the charity over the years. We wish her well with this new initiative and hope that it will raise vital funds for Barnardo’s.”
